Jed Livingston, Psy.D.
My interest in psychology began early. I volunteered at an inpatient clinic while still in high school, and the experience left a lasting impression on how I think about resilience and healing.
I went on to study English Literature and Philosophy at Vassar College, where I developed a deep appreciation for language, meaning, and the complexity of human experience. After a brief detour working in book publishing and teaching high school, I found my way back to the field that has always felt like home. I earned my Master’s degree in General Psychology and joined a research project exploring the linguistics of anxiety, an experience that strengthened my curiosity about how words, emotion, and thought intertwine.
Over the years, I’ve worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings, and co-ran a Dialectical Behavior Therapy program for the New York Office of Mental Health. My clinical approach integrates CBT and psychodynamic therapy, with a focus on understanding which therapeutic methods work best for each individual and why. I believe that effective therapy meets people where they are, honoring both insight and practical change.
I’m currently expanding my training to include couples therapy, and I bring the same curiosity and care to working with relationships as I do with individuals.
Outside of my professional life, I enjoy playing music—guitar, bass, and drums—and value creativity as another way of connecting and making sense of the world.
